Antar bin Shaddad is a slave son of a slave mother in the tribe of Bani Abs. His father Shaddad, the tribe's master, refuses to recognize him. Antar falls in love with his cousin Abla, who loves him back, while her uncle refuses this marriage and wants to marry her to another handsome young man named Omara. To get rid of him, her uncle asks for a huge dowry of one hundred red she-camels which only exist in the land of the Ghassanids (on the outskirts of Sham) at King Al-Nu'man. Antar indeed travels there to bring those camels, goes through severe hardships on his journey, then returns to his tribe again to try to win his beloved Abla.
