Nine is he fatherless daughter of singer Liane de Varenges. Her godfather is Fabius Marchal, a famous author. At party thrown by her mother, she is noticed by Georges de Mareuil who falls immediately in love. The banker Aymon, whose daughter Rachel would like to marry the young Count de Mareuil, also wants her. Georges de Mareuil declines Rachel's hand so Aymon plans a revenge and causes Nine's desperation. Her sense of honor will save her.
