The first time they meet, she finds him horrible. The second time, she falls in love with the strange, misanthropic, hypochondriacal lateral thinker who is plagued by all kinds of fears. Together they become Karl Valentin and Liesl Karlstadt. Their stories on stage are funny enough to make you cry and sad enough to make you laugh, just like their lives. Liesl becomes famous with her Valentin and pays a high price for it. The story of the comedian couple tells of jealousy, tears, successes and nervous breakdowns and of a love that lasts beyond death.
