Two young Native American men who take a road trip from an Idaho reservation to Phoenix, Arizona, to collect the ashes of an estranged father. Victor Joseph (Adam Beach) and Thomas Builds-the-Fire (Evan Adams) live on the Coeur d'Alene Reservation in Idaho. Victor is stoic and angry, holding deep resentment toward his father, Arnold, an alcoholic who abandoned their family. Thomas is an eccentric, cheerful storyteller who views Arnold as a hero because Arnold saved him from a devastating 1976 house fire that killed Thomas's parents.
