The novel reconstructs the true story of Rossella Casini, a twenty-two-year-old Florentine university student who, in the late 1970s, fell in love with Francesco Frisina, a Calabrian student living away from home. Rossella only later discovered that Francesco's family was closely linked to a powerful 'Ndrina (mafia) in Palmi, embroiled in a bloody feud. In the name of her love and the utopia of saving her fiancé and changing reality, Rossella decided not to run away and even collaborated with the magistrates. On February 22, 1981, after a final phone call to her father, Rossella disappeared into thin air in Palmi, brutally murdered and disappeared by the 'Ndrangheta as punishment for her rebellion.
