On his birthday, Alexander, a gambler by nature, receives an unexpected gift from his ex wife: a 10 year old son, wrapped in gift paper and holding a suitcase. Such a present is not at all in the plans of the father, who had agreed, for a substantial reward, to smuggle an antique "trinket" to Rome in his van. The father sends his son back to his mother by taxi, while he himself sets off on his journey. After a day on the road, the father is horrified to discover his son in the cargo compartment of his van.
