Gianfranco Brebbia's Stein is an interesting attempt to create an animated film using only photographic material and the full range of amateur filmmaking tricks. Endeavors of this kind—utilizing "dead" or mediated material—bring cinematic time to the forefront; that is, they make the development of the sequence—based on a succession not of actions, but of images—fundamental.
