In 1830, in slaveholding Brazil, a young African man named Amadeo invents the photographic camera before the Europeans do. Disguising himself to avoid enslavement, he uses his invention to help free the people held captive on the plantation of a powerful baron. Along the way, he grows close to Linda, the landowner’s daughter (a young idealist with a passion for science and art) with whom he embarks on a forbidden romance. A playful, romantic, and hypothetical adventure set in the New World.
