The Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, which opened the way through the Resurrection Gate to Red Square, has long been revered by Orthodox and even non-Orthodox Muscovites. In 1929-1931, the wooden chapel where the miraculous icon was venerated was destroyed by the godless authorities, the icon was confiscated, and the Resurrection Gate was demolished. In 1994-1995, the chapel and gate were restored, and a new list of the Iveron icon was made on Mount Athos.
