When several women from Piedecuesta and Bucaramanga, Santander, Colombia gathered to protest and march on November 25 against violence against women, they never imagined that their loud and necessary voices would become a batucada. Now, through their drums and percussion instruments, they amplify their angry voices and reach many more stages of protest and social struggle. Adriana, Angie, Andrea, and 25 other women meet several times a week to rehearse and discuss how they will take part in local and national events that allow them to speak out about harassment and violence against women. All this while the camaraderie and strength of their meetings and friendship help each member of La Batucada Guaricha find a path to personal healing.
