The film chronicles the past five years in the life of celebrated neurosurgeon and author Henry Marsh. He leaves his job with the NHS but retirement is anathema to him. He travels to Ukraine and Nepal to help train a new generation of neurosurgeons, then loses his great friend Professor Devkota to cancer in Kathmandu, survives Covid and his own cancer and throughout these turbulent years he offers his wisdom and knowledge about the outcomes of surgery , healthcare around the world and his thoughts on mortality.
