
When Auriol had first met the dashing Rudi von Grieffenhagen she was very young, fresh from the convent, and still under the thumb of a possessive father. So perhaps it was inevitable that she should have plunged into a brief and disastrous marriage with Rudi - a self-confessed rake who had shown no signs of mending his ways even after they were married.
