Die 1896 gegründete Zeitschrift Der Eigene gilt als die erste Homosexuellen-Zeitschrift der Welt; sie enthielt literarische Texte, kleinere Abhandlungen, Fotos und Zeichnungen. Aus zumeist zuvor in dieser Zeitschrift oder deren Umkreis erschienenen Erzählungen stellte Adolf Brand (1874-1945), ihr Begründer und Verleger, 1927 diese Anthologie zusammen.
