To fight for the empire
To Fight for the Empire: An Illustrated History of New Zealand and the South African War, 1899-1902. The South African War (often known as the Boer War) was a pivotal point in New Zealand history. Although its memory has now been overshadowed by that of two World Wars, at the time New Zealand soldiers were praised for their bravery and their practicality (and for being better disciplined than the Australians). NZ sent over 6500 troops to the war. This book is the story of New Zealand's part in the South African War of 1899-1902, lavishly illustrated with photographs and other contemporary images from collections around the country. Includes Roll of Honour.
