The story chronicles a day in the life of Dante Hicks, who works at the Quick Stop Groceries, a pit stop for assorted loafers, layabouts, weirdos, ne'er-do-wells and derelicts. Dante's girlfriend, Veronica, turns up and incites a huge argument about her sex life. His antagonistic friend Randal, who runs the adjacent video store, causes more problems for Dante.
