Into the beautiful North
Luis Alberto Urrea
Into the beautiful North
Traveling north of the border in search of work, the men of Nayeli's Mexican village have nearly disappeared. Upon watching the 1960 film The Magnificent Seven, 19-year-old Nayeli decides to journey north herself and recruit her own band of seven men. With hopes that her 'siete magnificos' will not only repopulate the village, but also combat the ruthless bandidos threatening to seize control of the area, Nayeli abandons her job at the local taco shop and sets off into the beautiful north. Nineteen-year-old Nayeli becomes very aware of the lack of men in Tres Camarones after watching the movie THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN at a local theater and comes up with a plan to travel to the U.S. to recruit men for her village.
