Malen, das bedeutet für Sofonisba frei sein. Doch im Spanien des 16. Jahrhunderts unterliegt auch die Kunst der strengen Zensur der katholischen Kirche. Sofonisba spielt ein gefährliches Spiel und gerät schon bald in das Visier der Inquisition.
