Szyk, a prominent Polish-Jewish artist who witnessed the rise of Nazi Germany, created this haggadah in the mid-1930s, offering the Jews of Europe a vision of hope in a dark time. Within the framework of the traditional Passover haggadah, he included forty-eight illuminations depicting Moses, David, and Judith triumphing over their oppressors and righting injustice.
