With Utopia More unknowingly created a new literary genre, the utopian novel. In his book he describes a fabled land with ideal societies and perfectly ordered towns and cities as envisaged by Plato. Unlike his own society, his Utopia had equality of the sexes, religious toleration and communal ownership of land, rendering all forms of warfare completely illogical.
